The experience in brief
An authentic meeting with the art of the traditional costume in the heart of Bono.
Anna Fois, after about forty years spent in Germany, chose to dedicate herself to the making of the traditional costumes of her town, starting from a personal desire: to be able to wear her own garment.
Her path began thanks to the teaching of Francesca Fois (born in 1925), a reference figure in the area, recognized for her excellence both in making and in the art of dressing the traditional costume.
This is not a tourist workshop, but an experience of observation and deep understanding.
Why you should live this experience
The Sardinian traditional costume is not a decorative object. It is a complex system made of techniques, symbols, materials and memory.
In Bono, this heritage is still alive thanks to people like Anna, who does not limit herself to creating new garments, but also works on the recovery of old pieces, often passed down for generations.
Participating in this experience means:
- understanding the real value of the traditional costume
- observing authentic work, not reconstructed
- coming into contact with techniques passed down over time
- listening to stories connected to objects that have been lived and used for centuries
Here you do not only observe a craft work: you enter a direct line of transmission, from teacher to student, which has allowed these techniques to reach the present day.
Full description
The experience takes place in Bono, in the Goceano area, and focuses on the making and recovery of the local traditional costume.
Anna’s path comes from a precise choice: after many years lived away from Sardinia, she decided to recover and deepen the knowledge related to the traditional dress of Bono, relying on the direct teaching of Francesca Fois, a recognized master in the area.
From this direct transmission, all the work that is shared today with visitors takes shape.
During the meeting it is possible to observe:
- hand-made embroidery
- work on velvet, fabrics and lace
- traditional sewing techniques
- structural details of male and female costumes
An important part of the experience concerns the recovery of old garments: shirts, skirts and other elements that are restored and brought back to their original function.
The content may vary depending on the period and on the theme chosen by Anna for the current year. On some occasions, specific processes are explored, such as:
- the making of the skirt “sa unnedda”
- the work on decorative elements such as the “tiazola”
If requested, it is also possible to attend practical embroidery demonstrations, although the main focus remains the narration and understanding of the process.
