The experience in brief

The activity includes an introduction to working with bees, an explanation of how the hive works and of the main phases of honey production, with the possibility to taste some varieties linked to the territory.

Why you should live this experience

This experience allows you to come into contact with an authentic reality of the Goceano area, far from paths created exclusively for tourism.

Through Alba’s direct story it is possible to understand the value of beekeeping work, the fundamental role of bees, and the deep connection between nature, seasons, and production.

Honey thus becomes a tool to read the landscape: each variety comes from a specific flowering and tells a different phase of the territory.

It is an opportunity to approach inland Sardinia in a concrete way, through an experience that combines knowledge, observation, and tasting, offering a direct point of view on one of the most representative productions of the island.

Full Description

The experience develops as a direct meeting with an active beekeeping reality in the Goceano area, led by Alba Ruiu, a beekeeper from Bono who has transformed a passion into a real professional activity over the years.

During the activity, the functioning of the hive will be introduced, with a clear explanation of the role of the bees and the internal organization of the colony. This allows understanding not only how honey is produced, but also the importance of bees for environmental balance.

A central part of the experience concerns the production process: from seasonal phases to honey harvesting. It will be explained how the beekeeper’s work changes throughout the year and how environmental conditions influence the final result.

Particular attention is given to the relationship between honey and territory. The different types produced – including asphodel, eucalyptus, and wildflower – come from specific bloomings and have unique characteristics. Each honey reflects a season and a part of the landscape.

Within the experience, the concept of migratory beekeeping is also introduced, a practice consisting of moving the hives according to the bloomings. This allows the production of different honeys and represents one of the most interesting aspects of the work.

Depending on the period, the experience may include a guided tasting, during which it is possible to recognize differences in color, aroma, and taste among the various productions.

Alongside production, the activity also includes the creation of packaging, gift ideas, and favors related to honey, showing how a local raw material can be transformed into products linked to specific events and occasions.

Alba’s work has also received national and international recognition, including “Grandi Mieli d’Italia” from the National Honey Observatory, and the “London Honey Awards”, confirming the quality of the production and the value of the connection with the territory.
